Working with Bidwells, Green Building Design Consultants developed a performance M&E specification for this four-storey office/retail property owned by Emmanuel College, Cambridge. This led to an appointment to support the subcontractor with detailed design for the installation of exposed mechanical services.
VRF simultaneous heating and cooling installation to serve the occupied office floors were completed, with time control, independent zones, night setback and energy monitoring provided by a dedicated master control.
A comprehensive ventilation system, including ceiling-mounted heat recovery units, enables fresh air to be distributed at 12 litres per second via a new ductwork system. Volume and fire dampers created a low-noise, draught-free environment in accordance with the building’s fire strategy and regulations. Local modifications were also made to the existing foul drain system, to accommodate revised toilet layouts, alongside installation of a self-cleansing gravity drainage system.
Jonathan Conway from Bidwells, commented “As a team we have been able to deliver a project within budget and to a high standard of finish, and the client is very pleased with the outcome.”
