M&E System at The Hop Exchange Redesigned to Eliminate need for a New Substation

Working alongside Cumberland Construction, Green Building Design Consultants have assisted the mechanical and electrical contractors with this design and build contract in the Grade II listed Hop Exchange building to eliminate the need for a new substation.

The complete M&E design for the modern office building was developed with the need to reduce power consumption, as the cost to introduce a new substation in neighbouring Borough Market would have been prohibitive.

Acting as advisors for the landlord, GBDC produced detailed load schedules for all proposed areas in the building which included equipment such as gas fired heating & cooling and LED lighting for maximum efficiency.

The new open plan offices in the West Wing of the Hop Exchange are arranged over the first, second and third floors. They will be fully decorated with raised access floors on first and second and perimeter trunking on the third, a new suspended lighting system, new shower and toilet areas and a passenger lift.

The project started on site in mid-April 2016 and is set to complete in late summer.
