The February 2017 edition of AJ Specification magazine featured Rainham Hall stair and lift – for which Green Building Design Consultants sourced a lift manufacturer to discreetly conceal a lift within an oak-clad newel of the spiral staircase.
Working with Julian Harrap Architects on the restoration of this beautiful Georgian building for the National Trust, Green Building Design Consultants were commissioned to design unobtrustive electrical and mechanical systems.
A hidden power supply was designed for the lift assembly and inconspicuous yet effective lighting systems and heating equipment were carefully selected for the lift atrium and rooms throughout the manor house.
Julian Harrap Architects’ objective was to “design contemporary interventions that would reinforce an understanding of the building’s primary uses”. AJ Specification concludes that the lift structure “appears to be ‘comfortable’ in this unique space, drawing on the traditional vernacular with an imaginative modern twist.”
