Green Building Design is at the forefront of sustainable and energy-efficient building solutions and we are currently seeking a Principal Engineer to lead and inspire our engineering team from our Hertfordshire office.

Role Overview:


As a Principal Engineer, you will take a leading role in project delivery, guiding junior and senior engineers while ensuring that all projects meet high standards in design, performance, and sustainability. You’ll oversee design calculations, conduct detailed feasibility studies, and collaborate with both internal and external teams to deliver projects from start to finish. This role is ideal for someone with a depth of knowledge in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering and a passion for mentorship, client management, and sustainable design.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor junior engineers, ensuring high-quality design calculations and effective project delivery.
  • Spearhead design development, offering strategic advice on complex M&E challenges.
  • Perform energy modelling and simulations to optimise building energy performance.
  • Take responsibility for project management, cost control, and team resource allocation.
  • Write and review reports, specifications, and technical documentation in line with GBD standards.
  • Coordinate across disciplines, maintain ISO documentation, and adhere to Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.
  • Act as a client liaison, managing client relationships and exploring new business opportunities.

Requirements:

  • BEng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering and over 10 years' experience.
  • Expertise in IES Virtual Environment (Level 3, 4, and 5) and strong understanding of M&E engineering principles.
  • Exceptional project and time management skills with a focus on client satisfaction and attention to detail.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • A valid driving license and personal vehicle.
